Balletboyz, Jess and Morgs and Dickson Mbi in Sadler's Wells new season line-up

Award-winning choreographic duo Jess and Morgs will present the first work created under their own company as part of Sadler’s Wells’ newly announced season, which includes seven world premieres across its venues.

Premiering at Sadler’s Wells East, Deepfake will combine dance, film, text and green-screen technology to explore an interview between journalists and lying politicians. The production marks the duo’s first work as a company following commissions for Paris Opera Ballet and Scottish Ballet.

Also announced is a new production from BalletBoyz, marking the company’s 25th anniversary year. The work will feature a 37-piece orchestra performing an original score by musician and composer Keaton Henson and explore the role of music and dance in mental health recovery.

The premieres form part of a wider programme focused on new choreography and contemporary dance from artists across the UK and internationally.

Alistair Spalding, artistic director and co-chief executive of Sadler’s Wells, said the season reflected the organisation’s commitment to supporting artists “at every stage of their careers”.

“At Sadler’s Wells East, we’re especially proud to be championing regional companies and mid-scale work, including Jess and Morgs’ Deepfake,” he said.

Elsewhere in the season, Olivier award-winner Dickson Mbi will premiere Tellus, inspired by his Cameroonian heritage and featuring dramaturgy by Complicité’s Simon McBurney, while Rose International Dance Prize winner Christos Papadopoulos returns with My Fierce Ignorant Step.

The programme also includes performances from Ballet Black, English National Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet and Acosta Danza, alongside the return of youth dance festival YFX Festival at Sadler’s Wells East.
