Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber launch collaboration with Rambert

Director-choreographers Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber will create a new work for Rambert as part of its centenary programme, marking the pair’s first collaboration with the organisation.

The production, In Crimson, forms part of This Is Rambert, a triple bill celebrating Rambert’s 100th anniversary, and is the first work commissioned through a new partnership between Rambert and arts charity Jerwood Foundation.

In Crimson reimagines Smith and Schraiber’s 2022 work Fugue in Crimson, originally created for the Batsheva Ensemble in Tel Aviv, and will receive its UK premiere with Rambert dancers during the company’s 2026 tour. The production features a live score by composer Yonatan Daskal performed on stage.

Rambert artistic director Benoit Swan Pouffer said the collaboration was a “natural fit” for the centenary programme.

“I’ve followed Bobbi’s work for a long time and have always connected with its honesty and intensity,” he said, adding: “It’s bold, intimate and full of tension – and feels like a natural fit within This Is Rambert, alongside the other powerful voices in the programme.”

This Is Rambert also includes Hop(e)storm by French collective (LA)HORDE and Gallery of Consequence by Dutch choreographer Emma Evelein as part of the company’s centenary programme.

Lara Wardle, executive director of Jerwood Foundation, said the commission reflected the organisation’s commitment to “creative excellence and emerging talent in the UK”.

This Is Rambert opens at Sadler’s Wells from 10th to 13th June 2026 before touring to Newcastle, Edinburgh, Salford and Norwich.
